About Papyrus

Few tourists to Egypt probably leave the country without at least one papyrus painting.

What is Papyrus?

Papyrus is an aquatic reed type plant which is grown in marshes along the River Nile.
Ancient Egyptians discovered how to make paper from the stems of the plant as early as 3000 B.C.
Papyrus sheets were the preferred writing materials of the ancient world because they were light, strong, and easy to carry. Thus, papyrus sheets share many of the advantages of modern paper.

There are a number of quality considerations when purchasing Papyrus Art. Perhaps the two most important factors are the material and the quality of the art itself.
When purchasing Papyrus it is important to note that a large amount of Papyrus purchased in Egypt is in fact NOT Papyrus. A considerable amount of art sold as Papyrus is made from an inferior product manufactured from the banana stalk. Other materials used include eggplant, carrot, potato, to mention just a few.

The Papyrus hand selected by Noosa Art Importers depicts traditional Egyptian scenes found on the Temple walls and in the Tombs throughout Egypt. You can select from over 200 different scenes and 10 different sizes that we have in stock.

Noosa Art Importers guarantee that all Papyrus purchased from us are Genuine and we support this claim by offering a Certificate of Authenticity with each piece.
